Summit County requires a Building Permit for the construction, enlargement, alteration, repair, movement, improvement, removal, conversion, or demolition of any building or structure. Permits are also required for solar PV installations.
There are exceptions for:
Commercial accessory buildings less than 120 square feet
Residential accessory buildings less than 200 square feet
Certain agricultural buildings
Fences less than 7 feet in height
Please keep in mind that plans cannot be reviewed over the counter without an appointment. Over the counter reviews are limited to:
Additions to single family dwellings that are single story and do not exceed 400 square feet
Requests for new siding, windows, furnaces, and duct work replacement
Single story detached garages that do not exceed 720 square feet
Tenant finishes in which the contractor / architect has previously spoken with the Plans Examiner
